My Approach

My Approach

I approach therapy by both helping you to understand your motivations for your behavior while at the same time helping you to cope and adjust to the changes your new insights bring you.  We will look at how you cope with your internal and external stresses of your moment to moment living.  We will see how you defend yourself when feeling under duress.  Your defenses are helpful in that they tells us what areas our maximum attention needs to be focused on. How you deal with problems in living will tell us much about what kind of a person you are and what you value most in your life.

In therapy, we process your experience - the raw, chaotic material of your feelings and memories - and translate it into a language you can understand.Your understanding provides a road map that gives shape to your world, a world that can now look more hopeful.  Not only does this provide structure and clarity for you to see your way through, it also tells us what your experiences mean uniquely to you. Once you know this, you have a truth that is unwavering and is always present.
